18holes golf course in the Herdade dos Salgados between Albufeira and Armação de Pêra
Location and access
The Salgados golf course is situated between Galé und Armação de Pêra behind the dunes of the Praia dos Salgados beach. The nature reserve Salgados (salt marsh) in the bay Ria de Armação is a unique biotope and habitat for many bird species and other animals. It is a 4,5 km drive from the EN125 in Pera and almost eight kms from the A22 motorway, exit 7 near Alcantarilha.
The course, originally designed by Portugal’s Pedro Vasconselos and later on refined by American Robert Muir-Graves, is one of very few typical links courses in the Algarve.
The low lying wetlands of the landscape have been skilfully used in the layout, which incorporates 14 water hazards! Accurate shot selection is therefore of extreme importance. Sea and land breezes across the low laying terrain often affect playing conditions, making it an even more challenging course that demands your full concentration.
Services & facilities
The club house of Salgados offers everything golfers may need before or after an enjoyable round of golf, and the driving range is located nearby.
The original marshland terrain is an absolute treasure-trove of rare birds which can be best observed at dawn and dusk. This particular experience of pure and unspoilt nature may compensate for the loss of some golf balls in one of the many water hazards.
